Staying Ahead of the (B.A.C.) Curve
"Greetings! I'll be using this page to update you on what's new in DWI Defense Land. Topics will include News and Notes from the DWI Defense trenches, recent case log developments (both good and bad), questions I'm often asked about what to do (and not to do) if you're stopped for DWI, and what I'm doing to keep my skills sharp and give my clients the best DWI Defense possible.
Relisting With Best Lawyers In America
For the second year in a row, I have been listed in "Best Lawyers In America", a national peer reviewed rating service, for Criminal Defense. Best Lawyers selection is based upon confidential evaluations submitted by my professional peers.
National College For DUI Defense - Membership and 2009 Summer Training
Based upon professional references which included several Judges, I have been accepted into membership with the National College For DUI Defense, Inc., the leading organization of DUI Defense lawyers in the United States. It is to my knowledge the only organization that provides board certification for DUI Defense, a goal I am working toward.
On July 15th, I'm off to Harvard Law School for 3 days of "Summer School" conducted by some of the best DWI Defense lawyers in the country, who make up the faculty for the National College of DUI Defense. I'll be learning about new developments in DUI case law, cutting edge trial techniques, and Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) defense techniques. The latter is especially interesting as police officers are being trained in how to apprehend and process drivers who have ingested marijuana or other illegal substances, which presents far more complicated defense challenges than drinking and driving cases. I'll report to you what I've learned from these interesting and exciting seminars, over the next few weeks.
Teaching Other Lawyers About DUI Defense Techniques - 5/18/09
I was pleased to teach a class to solo and small firm Vermont practitioners on "The Basics of DUI Defense" at the recent Vermont Bar Association's Solo and Small Firm Conference on May 18, 2009. I shared with the attendees DWI case handling procedures, office management and fee issues, and how to effectively defend clients charged with DUI. My seminar was well attended and it was fun sharing what I've learned with the next generation of Vermont DUI Defenders."
